6th Grade Camp, WOW!!!
I just had to put this out there for all to know how fabulous this event was! As a volunteer at this event I was truly impressed with how it was ran. As we set off on our adventure, the 8th grade counselors were awesome. It was nice to see them step up as role models. They were well trained on how to motivate the 6th graders to do what they asked without being "bossy". Kudos to them because they showed this leadership throughout the camping trip. Volunteers, staff, and helpers...It was great. From the principal to the staff was a major part in this event. They showed the students how important they are to them, not by just showing up but by being involved in all the activities the kids were doing. Then cheering them on and giving them direction in a positive way. Being very supportive and guiding them through some of the most awesome adventures. They showed how much each student means to them. Great job!!! It was great to bring on Shelly Smith and Mr. Ruff. The 6th graders have loved having Shelly the last 3 years. They respect her and know all her expectations and enjoy all her activities of how to build relationships, work together as a team, and have fun while learning these life long skills. To have Mr. Ruff, who has done these same adventures with kids in his previous adventures before coming to Orting, helped immensely. It showed leadership transition from PTR to OMS with positive teamwork between the two of them. They were above and beyond awesome. Volunteers, I cannot say enough. Can you believe that we had more male volunteers than female.?! WOW! That is huge! They are great role models for kids and men volunteers can and did make a difference. All the volunteers stepped up and did whatever they were needed to do. They showed students that working together as a team, we can get anything done. For the most part they were all there for the right reasons. They didn't hover over their own children, they included all the children. They were a true inspiration. Finally, the staff that made sure this was possible for all 6th graders deserves a huge Thank you because without them this whole positive experience would have never been possible. The kids were constantly on an adventure. There was no down time for kids to have drama or issues. They were on the go and inspired the entire time. Thank you, thank you, thank you...I cannot say it enough. You all did a wonderful job!! If possible, I will volunteer for this event every year.:0) As we all know, when things go wrong people are quick to judge and complain. If things go right people are slow to talk and compliment. We need to change this attitude in our society. People need to know they are appreciated and I want everyone who was involved in this event to know that it was an awesome time not only for me but also for all the students. We appreciate all you do for our kids. I have heard nothing but positive feedback from kids and parents! Well...the only negative is that they wish it would be two nights. LOL :-) Thank you to all of you! Have a great day. Amy Lalone

I must say, with a little bit of prejudice, Amy, as you see, is a very devoted Mother to her children and the Orting School District. Signed her Mom, Susan Christensen

Amy said it all. As another parent volunteer on this little adventure, I was continually impressed at the overall big picture of the camp. Kudos to all indeed.
