Rep. Jim McCune spoke at a ground-breaking ceremony for the State Route 510 Yelm Loop project Monday, April 12th. The 2nd District lawmaker supports the work of the Washington State Department of Transportation and is looking forward to the project reducing traffic congestion in and out of Yelm and unincorporated Thurston County.
The project builds a new roadway off of State Route 510 in Yelm, from Mud Run Road to Cullens Road. Stage one of the two-stage project will ease congestion for the 18,000 vehicles that travel the section of roadway each day. The project will include Yelm’s first roundabout and is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2010. “This project has been a long time coming and is the culmination of nearly two decades of hard work at the local level. I want to thank all those who have played a role in reaching this important step, and I am honored to have played a small part in helping,” said McCune, R-Graham. “I look forward to what this project will mean for Yelm.” The 2nd District continues to benefit from the state transportation budget, which is financed primarily through state gas tax revenue, federal funds and transportation-related fees. A total of 18 local projects were included in the $8.5 billion supplemental transportation budget, which McCune voted for in the 2010 regular legislative session. The 2nd District has been the beneficiary of nearly $1.4 billion for projects over the last six years. |
