And more specifically - they are only helping a certain form of farm - what about the other farms? How is this in any way fair for other farmers who aren't some of the special "chosen"? Their competitors now have an unfair advantage? And tax payers are paying for it. I think it should have been 100% funded by private charity with money donated willingly by people who believe in the cause.

@teresa_110 - Read the article - A PCC Donor buys the land and then leases it to the farmer! They should sell it to the farmer - not rent it to him. If the farmer can't qualify for financing then they should sell it to a farmer who can. I'm glad you're farming and I understand about pinching pennies - but why do you think it's ok to take money from others because of your career choice? Because this PCC situation is doing exactly that - they are taking tax dollars to help these businesses

I have to disagree with you cliffk. The problem is that we are losing farms and farmers can't afford to buy the land. So leasing is a way to help the farmer (who lives a very unglamorous life, doing without much) just to grow food for the people. Nothing fishy about it at all. I'm biased, my husband is a farmer. We have 3 kids and I pinch pennies and do without and I feel good knowing that we are helping mankind by growing good food without toxins and chemicals.

Our tax dollars went to subsidising these businesses? I think the PCC Trust Fund sounds great - I like what they're doing - except them also using our tax dollars. The country is broke and the state is broke. Is the Pierce County rich? And it sounds sort of fishy that one of the PCC Trust Fund Donors then bought the land to lease out to the farmer!
