Seniors get free local produce at Orting Senior CenterBy: Barbara Hansen
July 19, 2010
Residents age 60 and older get free locally grown produce just by coming into the Orting Senior Center this summer.
A grant from Pierce County Aging and Long-term Care provides the center with the funds to purchase the "peak of the crop" every week. The week's pick is available beginning Mondays at 11 a.m. and is available throughout the week during regular Senior Center hours. The center continues to offer a limited food bank open to all members of the community -- not just seniors -- consisting of bread, bakery and dairy products. The food bank is open five days a week during regular Senior Center Hours. The Orting Senior Center is open Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Fridays 8-11 a.m. Dinner is served at noon Monday-Thursday and breakfast is served at 9 a.m. on Friday. |
