![]() The Big O Getting Bigger!By: Lyle Evansiano
July 15, 2010
The "Orting Loop" is becoming the destination ride for motorcycles from throughout the Northwest, and Saturday's "Big O" Motorcycle Ride has become the showcase. Hundreds of bikers are expected to enjoy the great weather forecast, two routes to ride - a shorter 75 mile trek touching base in the surrounding Cascade foothill communities of Kapowsin, Eatonville, South Prairie, Buckley, Enumclaw OR a magical route over one side of the Cascades (and we're not talking I-90!) and back on the other side of the Cascades...fully circling Mt. Rainier, slipping through Mt. Rainier National Park itself, and various checkpoints staffed along the way.
"The Big O Ride is supported heavily in the riding community, the community of Orting, and The Orting Eagles." said Dick Ford, co-organizer and founder of the event. "Saturday in Orting is peppered with breakfast, signing in, a preview of the amazing prize cache collected each year from local merchants and regional businesses like Duke's Chowderhouse, Max Muscle Sports Nutrition, Bluwater Bistro and others." "This year The Seafair Pirates and Carr Knowledge Interactive Marketing & Advertising have donated a custom Black Solomon, a 26” Beach cruiser bicycle." added co-founder Rich Carr. "During the Daffodil Parade, the Pirates LOVE Orting, and many of them ride in The Big O. Through a series of events we received this custom bicycle as one of our prizes to the riders. Only 300 were ever made!" This year the ride will benefit the Men & Women living at the Orting Soldiers home, and a local food bank with a 50/50 split. The Morale and Welfare fund at the Soldiers home provides recreational opportunities for the residents. All of these folks served our country and many have disabilities brought on by that service. The Staff there does an outstanding job taking care of the residents and any extra monies they receive is greatly appreciated. The other charity this year is a local food bank (many more families are having financial difficulties this year), as determined by a vote of the members of the South Sound Meetup Group. We're happy this group came on board this year to help organize and promote the event. The group loves to ride & has loads of group rides under their belt; long & short trips and large & small crowds, there's something for everyone. All motorcycles are encouraged to attend and ride and the fee is only $10. You may sign up online at www.TheBigORide.com, email Dick Ford, or call 360-893-2770.
