![]() You May Be The Next Orting City Council memberBy: Rich Carr
August 10, 2010
Council member Joachim Pestinger, Position 1, has resigned to fulfill a new position as Fire Commissioner for Fire District #18. Here is an opportunity for you to consider this position. The last day to file your resume with the city is September 2nd.
According to Sam Colorossi, "At the July 28th council meeting Joe tendered his letter of resignation to the Mayor and Council effective July 31st because of his appointment to one of the two Fire Commissioner’s position with Fire District #18. As you know Joe was also our deputy mayor which means the council has that position to fill as well. When I learned of Joe’s resignation I volunteered to head up the council selection process. No one challenged me so I ended up with the job." The Council selected September 8th as the evening to interview the candidates because that is the one night a month Orting City Council meetings are televised. This gives the people at home, with cable television access, a chance to see who has applied for the position. They can listen to the candidate’s position and how they respond to our questions. "We will be accepting resumes and/or letters of intent from any prospective candidate up and until September 02nd. Cut off time will be 4:00 p.m. The candidates must be U.S. citizen, registered voter and have lived in Orting for one year." The strategy is to allow each candidate to express their views as to why they should be considered for the position. They will be given three informative questions to investigate and give us their response. The Council will then have an opportunity to ask up to three impromptu questions. After hearing each candidate, I think the Council will go into Executive Session to discuss their options and then come out of Executive Session to make a decision. Added Colorossi, "Let's hope it is that easy."

One down, let's keep going!! Next the present Mayor (Cheryl) and City Engineer (Mark). If you are removed from a position for anything other than resigning than you shouldn't be allowed to serve on another city committe. We (the people) vote them out and then the city hires them back in another position!! So, they still have a say in the present and future of Orting-why do we even vote??????????

I don't live in Orting anymore but I agree. Didn't care much for him as a mayor, but think Cheryl is worse. Hope whomever will get the council seat will do it truly as a community service and as a way to better the city.

Of course Sam volunteered to head the selection process!! After he left the mayors office, it was only a matter of time before he would be back, and he got a seat on the council!!! Always has to have his hands dipped in to the cities affairs. It was funny when he hid in the bathroom from reporters though a long while back during a "scandal" with the Whitehawk develpoment. You keep up the GREAT work Sam!!!!
