Pierce County renewed the 1978 permit in 1999. The site was then annexed by the city of Sumner in 2000. Since then, CTI had mined to within 100 feet of our property, leaving a 100 foot cliff, 1/2 mile in length, violating many restrictions. Pierce County then allowed a new permit to expand the site out of Sumner into Pierce County, ignoring all the previous proof of illegal activities. We have been fighting a gravel pit in Pierce County for 32 years! We have found that Pierce County WILL NOT control this kind of activity in any way, only approve any request they make.
