Can Anyone Recommend a GOOD Bank?By: James Vaughn
May 10, 2011
As most people in Orting know, Frontier Bank was recently acquired by Union Bank. When this occurred I did not give it much thought, until recently. With three bank accounts, one for personal, a business account and one for a political action committee, I found myself contacting a number of agencies to inform them of a new routing and accounting number. Like many people, I was mildly irritated but this was not something to lose sleep over.
If it were not for the bank personnel in Orting, I would change banks in a heart beat. In spite of that, I am still considering a change. Why? Let me explain. I miss Frontier Bank and the home town personal service. Same personal but the rules have changed and bank personnel have to abide by the rules. I use to be able to call the bank and ask them to transfer funds from my business to my personal account. No more. Now I have to drive into town and make the transfer in person. As I see it, I have the same caring individuals at the bank but a corporate mentality that is far from personal. Another shock happened this past weekend. Feeling in the mood to play poker I went to one of the local casinos and withdrew some cash and was charged $2.50 for using the ATM. I knew this because I was asked if I wanted to accept the $2.50 charge. If you were wondering, I did not win at the casino. In addition, when I got home and checked my online banking, I discovered that I lost another $2 because Union Bank charged me for the ATM transaction. What the H_LL is that all about? The only answer I can figure is GREED. Do you feel like your bank is trying to grab your money faster than the politicians in Olympia? Banks don’t pay ATM’s a salary, or benefits. I suspect ATM’s save banks thousands if not millions of dollars by putting bank tellers out of a job and making a profit due to the ATM charges. Not happy in Orting , is asking anyone if they know of a home town bank that offers personal service.

I moved my accounts to a nice home town bank with the best personal service ever! I just call and all the tellers recognize my voice and greet me by name. Plus, they are always happy to help you with everything! I'm thrilled with TIMBERLAND BANK in PUYALLUP on Meridian.

It sounds to me like you need to go up the street just a little and stop at KEY Bank. The people will make you feel that you found a place that cares about you. The services available are the best. I don't get into the branch very often because of the convenience of on line banking and the 2 automatic tellers, but when I do walk in someone always says hi. A great local branch of a bank that you will be happy to do business with.

Not GREED, just the new boss' rules. Harborstone Credit Union is a great institution that I've moved my personal too about a year ago when Frontier's HQ management started getting in trouble. I give it high marks and an incredible online banking interface.
