February 16, 2012
Drew Templemen of Orting High School can become only the ninth wrestler in state history to become a four-time champion if he wins the 1A 126-pound final at this weekend’s Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome.
Templemen is one of 17 Orting grapplers to make the trip to Tacoma this weekend, and area residents are hungry as the three-time defending state 1A champions take to the mats. In last weekend's District Meet, the Cardinals crowned six champions: Fred Green (106 pounds) Austin Dodson (113 pounds) Drew Templeman (126 pounds) Shannon Maris (138 pounds) Mike Moniz (145 pounds) Dalton Evanger (152 pounds) Rounding out this amazing Cardinal squad are: Rex Dunn (106) Logan Evanger (113) Tyler Blankenship (126) Chris Ridner (132) Dylan Thomas (138) Beau Gore (145) Canaan Elliott (152) Jacob Owen (160) Bryan Akers (182) Jamison Rice (195) Matt King (220) Dillon Stiles (120 pounds) had to default this years Mat Classic as he hurt his knee last weekend at District. Friday, the first session for both boys and girls began at 10 a.m. and went through 2 p.m., with second session 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the third session is 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., including placing matches for 3rd through 8th; championship matches begin at 5 p.m. Take a look at Drew Templmen wrestle at last years 125 CK Matman Finals |

Awesome job to all 17 young men, bringing home 4 individual titles (Fred Green, Drew Templeman, Shannon Marris and Dalton Evanger), the 4th straight team title and 3 academic champions to boot (Austin Dodson, Dillon Thomas and Jacob Owen)!! Mike Sowards will be missed as head coach, but I'm sure the program will remain strong!
