February 03, 2012
I hope that everyone is doing great and that you are all ready to get back into the swing of soccer... We have been working very hard in the off season to bring opportunities to our local kids to better help with their soccer skills and ultimately help our school soccer teams too. We are partnering with Joel Carver of Futura Futsal to bring an excellent soccer opportunity to you right here in Orting. What is Futsal? Why Futsal?
Futsal is a small-sided game (5v5 including the goalkeepers) played on a small field roughly the size of a basketball court. The game does not require the use of dasher boards. It is played with the touchline boundaries with no walls to bang the ball against. The official ball is a special low bounce ball that is heavier and smaller than an official size 5 soccer ball. The ball forces a player to use their skill rather than the ball’s bounce to propel it. It is a complete skill game. Futsal develops the overall fundamentals of soccer more effectively. It has been proven that youth players develop quicker reflexes, faster thinking and pinpoint passing. It is a superior game in terms of establishing players’ touch and technique. As compared to the American indoor game where a player relies on utilizing the walls, Futsal forces a player to think two or three steps ahead without using the walls. One touch passing is essential in maintaining ball possession on a smaller surface. Therefore, an individual’s overall ball handling skills and off the ball movement enhance considerably. When a player gets in trouble with the ball, there is no whacking it off the wall. Their split second thinking improves automatically as one learns how to maintain possession and distribute the ball quickly. Shots must be more accurate, since a shot off target will not produce a rebound. More shots are also taken during the course of a game, which will enhance a player’s confidence, by taking on a defender and shooting quickly. A player does not have as much space or time to dribble with the ball. Futsal helps to develop tremendous close quarter’s footwork. As you can see this is an excellent opportunity to sharpen not only foot skills but the thinking part of the game. The Futura Futsal training will be starting Friday February 10, 2012 at Ptarmigan. We are opening this training up for only 20 kids per session. The Friday sessions are 4:30-5:30 Ages 5-7, 5:30-6:30 Ages 8-10 and 6:30-7:30 Ages 11-14. Every other Friday we will stay at the gym longer for open futsal game sessions. The cost is $50.00 for the four week session and this first session all the kids will get a free FUTURA t-shirt. The sessions will run month to month and those first 20 spots are guaranteed a spot for the next month. These will be the ONLY spots unless someone drops out or we see a need to add another day. Registration can be done at Fox Hollow Coffee beginning Saturday February 4th or you can email me for registration information. Spots will fill quickly so don't wait. This is going to be great for Orting and soccer!!! Hope to see you there!!! Tamara OSC President |
