![]() Just Say No To Paying For Something We Don't GetBy: Sam Colorossi
February 16, 2012
Last fall, Pierce Transit made some drastic changes to the area in which they serve. We, in Orting, saw our limited services dropped entirely, however we continue to pay a sales tax (.06%) to Pierce Transit.
On December 16th, of this past year, Pierce Transit created an ad hoc committee called, Public Transportation Improvement Conference (PTIC). The City of Orting’s representatives are Councilmember Stanley Holland with Councilmember Ric Fritz as our alternate. The main purpose of this conference is to determine whether or not it is desirable to revise the service boundaries of Pierce Transit. I attended that meeting, as well, and reviewed the draft map with a revised delineation showing Orting to be drawn out of the proposed service area, Pierce Transit is considering. Please take a moment to read the following media release regarding a public hearing the Public Transportation Improvement Conference will be holding on March 08th. If you cannot possibly make this meeting, please call, write a letter or even send an e-mail expressing your desire for the City of Orting to be excluded from within the Pierce Transit service area. It is time to flex our muscle and say “no” for paying for something that we are not receiving. Without bus service in town we also need to stop paying the RRTA "tax" on our license renewals, it is a huge portion of our $30--no, wait--$90 tab fees...
