I hope that this election has ignited or re-ignited people's interest in what is happening politically in Orting! When I discovered a few months back that our mayoral and council races were all running unopposed, I knew I had to run so that Orting citizens could have a choice....that is what democracy is supposed to be about....being informed and then making the best choice possible with that knowledge...Orting citizens have made their choice and I congratulate Cheryl on her win!
I have been humbled through my months of campaigning. I have met more incredible people than I knew lived in Orting and have been inspired by our citizens. I have renewed energy and hope for Orting because now I know there are people in town who really care about the direction Orting is heading! I hope that this election has re-energized others as well! I hope that Cheryl will begin to look at everyone and everything in Orting, youth, seniors, businesses, firemen, police, veterans, school personnel, non profits, Ortingnews.com etc...and use the combined knowledge and expertise of all those groups of people to make Orting an even better place to live!
I hope also that all future elections in Orting all have challengers! Now is a great time to get involved and run for a local office! Marian Wright Edelman once said that, " a lot of people are waiting for Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa or Gandhi to come back but they are gone. We are it. It is up to us. It is up to you" ...to change the world. No truer words were ever spoken. Every one of us needs to get involved! Go to meetings. Get involved. Ask for the Orting city budget and review it. Ask the tough questions. Expect answers. If you are not registered to vote yet, register now so you are ready for the next election. Take your kids to the polls so they can see you help shape the future of Orting and the United States! Inspire and encourage them to register to vote when they turn 18!
Lastly, I want to thank everyone for their support! Orting is an incredible place to live because of all of you! Thanks for all of your support and encouragement!
