Man Sentenced For Using Pipe Bomb On Police Cruiser

A man has been sentenced to six years in prison for using a pipe bomb to destroy an Orting police cruiser as revenge for a drug conviction.

Forty-two-year-old Terry Alan Overton of Spanaway pleaded guilty to possession of an unregistered explosive device and destruction of property using a destructive device.

U.S. District Judge Ronald Leighton noted at Overton's sentencing on Friday that Overton had worked his way up from a series of minor state drug charges to a federal felony. A federal prosecutor says the bombing was a slap in the face of the criminal-justice system.

The bomb that sent shrapnel through the police cruiser was made from galvanized steel pipe.
