PIERCE COUNTY, WA – Karie Franks, of Spanaway, was crowned the winner of the first Fit For A Cause, June 19th, after completing a training and education routine at Callaway Fitness. Franks lost 47.2 lbs. and 20.31% of her body weight while competing for the last 12 weeks with 29 other contestants from across Pierce County. For her achievement, Franks won a 12 month membership to Callaway Fitness, the right to compete in Fit For A Cause II free of charge and $1500.00 for her charity, Experience Church Missions Group.
Franks, a proud mother of three, asked if this event changed her responded, “ABSOLUTELY! This has been a complete lifestyle change in so many ways. I would like to think it has changed more than just me, including my family, friends, and all those that have been inspired through this process”.
Franks followed with, “I will continue living this new healthy lifestyle and live a much longer, happier, healthier life! A lot of the contestants from Fit For a Cause are like family now and we will continue with workouts and weekly weigh-ins after the finale for accountability as well as for friendship. It is much more fun working out with others I must say - the time goes quicker! But regardless, I know that all things are possible! I have lost almost 50 pounds and my goal of another 30 pounds will come off as well!”
Fit For A Cause
Fit For A Cause was co-founded by local business owners, Kieran Murry of Kieranslist.com and Mike Petrovic, owner of Callaway Fitness in Puyallup. 30 contestants were divided into three teams and battled for 12 weeks for bragging rights as individual and team winners. “By the end of 12 weeks our contestants lost a grand total of 793 lbs,” Murry said,”one of our contestants even lost 73 lbs during the contest.”
A defining moment came early on for Murry and Petrovic when they decided to use the weight loss contest to raise money for charity. “Each of our contestants were playing for their own charity and our grand finale saw our group had raised just under $19,000.00!”, Murry exclaimed. Teams and individuals raised money a variety of ways much of it based on their own individual weight loss. Petrovic added, “We tied their weight loss to the community and raising money so our contestants had a bigger purpose.”

Fit For A Cause II
Excitement is already building as Kieranslist.com and Callaway Fitness prepare to launch FFC2 on August 14th. Auditions for contestants will be held at Callaway Fitness on July 16th from 4 PM to 9:00 PM.
“Response and support from our community has been overwhelming,” Murry stated, “and our goal for FFC2 is to lose even more weight while raising over $50,000.00 for charitable organizations.” FFC2 has even gained attention from local businesses as many have stepped up in sponsorship roles to make sure Murry and Petrovic continue to produce the events. Murry noted, “We have secured major sponsorships from Best Western Park Plaza and Custom Mortgage, Inc both in Puyallup and Rainier Connect in Tacoma. And we have 21 other sponsors who have shared our vision of making a difference in our community.”
