CECIL CHANNING JULY 18, 1929 - JUNE 24, 2009

Cecil Lewis Channing Soul of a Saint Heart of Our Family. In loving memory of Cecil who was born in Kelso, WA 7-18-29 and left us 6-24-09, surrounded by his family. He was 79 years old. Cecil lived in the Valley all of his life. He was raised in Orting and attended Orting High School where he was very active in football and basketball. Cecil still holds the record in basketball of 43 points from 1946 for most points scored in a game by one person. In later years horseshoe pitching became his passion where he participated in many tournaments and won several awards, including 2nd in the World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament. He loved to watch his family at sporting events. He shared his talent of making beautiful stained glass pictures. He was an avid walker and fisherman. In 1954 Cecil married his wife Eunice. Together they settled on Bonney Lake and over the next 54 years loved and raised their children. Cecil retired from a long career with Hygrade Meats in Tacoma. He is survived by his wife Eunice, daughter Pamela (Vance), sons Lew (Bev), Mark (Victoria) and daughter Kim (Dave), grandchildren Jason, Krystal, Ian, Cabrina, Tiffany, Thomas and Christopher, great-grandchildren Sophia, Isabella and his sister Dorothy Thompson. He was preceded in death by his mother Winnifred, father Howard and brother Don. Cecil was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather and made friends wherever he went. He was greatly respected and loved by all who knew him as a genuinely loving and gentle man. He was truly our Saint Cecil. There was a private family burial with a Celebration of Life and reception Thursday 7-2-09 at Sumner Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank all of the health care professionals that assisted Dad. Donations can be made to the Prostate Cancer Association in Cecil's name.
