It’s getting hot out there and with 2.5 times the normal amount of snow this winter/spring in the Central Cascades, the rivers are getting high. I’ve been watching the Puyallup River every day as I drive over it, the water sure is rising! It’s flowing fast and yes, it’s very brown. Driving over the bridge on Calistoga, you can no longer see the little “islands” of sand in the middle of the river, they are gone.
I’ve read the Snoqualmie Falls is running at 10,000 cubic feet per second, 3 times its normal amount for this time of year.
They say that we are not supposed to flood but the Snoqualmie, Nisqually and White river are at what is called bankfull and residents are told to keep their eyes on the waters.
With it being so hot out there, be careful around the rivers as it is melted snow and very cold and running very fast. Right now is not the time to go “tubing”.
I’m looking forward to watching the rivers the next couple of days as long as we do not have a repeat of November 2006!
