DIABETES WORKSHOPS ON TUESDAYS

The free diabetes workshops beginning Feb. 9 meet on Tuesdays, not Thursdays as previously reported.

Diabetics who want to learn how to keep their disease in check are invited to join a free class in Orting beginning Feb. 9.

"Diabetes Self-Care Skills" begins at 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 9 at the Orting Senior Center. The class is held the second Tuesday of each month through May.

Participants may start the workshop anytime throughout the series. However, it is encouraged to take the entire workshop series to cover all the major points for good diabetes self care. No reservations are necessary.

Topics to be covered throughout the four sessions include: Carbohydrate counting, how to read food labels, blood glucose monitoring, physical activity, treatment of high and low blood sugars, sick day care and how good control helps. The class is taught by Diane Hagen, RN, BSN, CDE, under the auspices of the Diabetes Association of Pierce County.
