When it was over, Grant Angle didn’t look all that tired.
Sure, his shirt was sweat-stained. His eye black was smeared to his upper cheek.
But the Orting Cardinals senior running back wasn’t bent over in exhaustion despite the fact that he had just gained 220 of his team’s 368 rushing yards against Life Christian.
Angle and Orting pounded against the Eagles defense Saturday night, built a huge first-half lead, watched Life Christian roar back and then finally put their Nisqually League opponent away in a major fashion, 68-27, at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood.
“I kinda wanted it,” Angle said. “The linemen really stepped it up.”
The victory leaves the Cardinals (4-0) as the sole unbeaten team in the Nisqually after, for the second consecutive week, Orting pummeled a top-10 program in the state.
A week ago, it was Meridian in a non-league contest at home. Saturday, it was the Eagles (3-1), the No. 2-ranked team in The News Tribune’s Class 1B state poll.
Saturday on the road, Orting, ranked No. 5 in Class 1A, again put up huge numbers.
