Comment #29: We don't need to be a government state. I'm sick of more regulations when common sense and common courtesy should take care of the problem.
Comment #28: Most people know the rules and are considerate of each other. My husband and I walk and bicycle the trail frequently and are sometimes surprised how little common sense and courtesy people can have. Signs would definitely make people more aware, but I don't know that they would help with manners.
Comment #27: what and how will this be paid for?? oh ya just tax me some more.
Comment #26: If you see someone not doing the right thing, call them out on it. A horn honk or a vocal reminder if they can hear you shows that people are paying attention. Don't turn a blind eye to it and expect the police to enforce EVERYTHING. If you all care so much about this town, do something about it. Plenty of bike riders hear my feelings about them not stopping. If someone broke a storefront window, you'd do something about it. Breaking the law is breaking the law regardless of what it is. Judging by the comments everyone is watching but doing nothing about it, so you don't have to worry about any kind of physical confrontations.
Comment #25: Signs are not the issue. It is the arrogant disregard for those signs, rules and common sense already in existence. They need a bathroom system. We are sick of people walking off the trail into our driveway using it as a toilet. It is in plain view, not an isolated area. People think because we have a large tree they should water it? Walk over the drive on the otherside and defecate on our drive where the runoff goes into the creek? This is sickening and we are tired of seeing it. Also, the bikes blow the stop sign daily on our driveway. They have the stop sign instead of us, because we are going over a blind hill and can't see the cars coming and watching for the bikes coming from the left or right at full speed.
Comment #24: People are not using the signs now, why spend the money on more.
Comment #23: They are not a law enforcement agency. No!
Comment #22: And start enforcing those who don't! Also, it would be great if they could ticket those bicycles that still use the highway instead of the trail.
Comment #21: The signs should be for the cars, not the bikers. It makes more sense to have cars yield to bikes, and bikes yield to pedestrians. Children should be taught to stop and look, but ultimatley it is the car that does the most damage. Slow down and look for trail users. Be grateful your city has a trail! Trails always increase home and property values and bring in tourism dollars to the city. The cars should be required to stop, not the trail users.
Comment #20: No more signs, enough of them already. I like the idea of patroling it a little more and educating people. Spend the money on something better than more clutter.
Comment #19: no.....we just need someone to police the rude aggressive behavior of the people who think the rules are for the others and not them.....same is said for in town driving.....people pull out or turn in front of you, and think the person coming should stop...are our cops writing any tickets....and how about those dump trucks honking at people to go faster so they can speed even faster down the highway......police...get your ticket books out and use them....that will send the ultimate message
Comment #18: There are stop signs already, that are perpetually ignored by bike riders, and pedestrians alike, so I'm not sure spending money on more signage would be prudent. How about policing the trail and enforcing the rules for a while, until people get it! I have almost hit bikers who barrel through the inersections without a look to see if anyone is coming. It's is really irritating!! A Village Green Resident.
Comment #17: Most of the issues with people using the trail at street crossings is common sense and following existing rules when it comes to street crossings and sidewalks. Whether these people will read the signs....Who knows.
Comment #16: It would be nice to have reminders of the 10mph speed limit along the trail, not just in the fine print at one or two trailheads. A lot of the issues on the trail just stem from people not following the guidelines on the trail and the rules of the road for crossing intersections. This applies to walkers and bikers alike.

Comment #14: I have seen both Autos and People on the trail disregard signs. How many people in vehicles do you see blow through a crosswalk instead of stopping before them, because they are in a hurry, no different than the so called extreme bicyclist or non-caring kid. There are plenty of signs, people just need to respect and be considerate of each other. I also believe this is not just a trail issue, but exists throughout the city. Just remember, even though the pedestrian may be at fault, vehicles and their drivers hurt people, and after it happens no-one wins.
Comment #13: The only change I would like to see is less LITTERING!! But I'm not sure more signs could change that. We all know the ones who litter are the same ones who disregard signs anyway!
Comment #12: No the stop signs are completly visible. The trail goers just need to OBEY them. I walk/bike the trail and stop for all signs if not at least check to make sure there is no one turning in or out of the neighborhoods. I also stop for all in crosswalks. How hard is it to obey the rules? We're how old? And how many of us are parents out there on the trail and yell at out kids to obey the rules? How can we have our kids obey rules if we don't? Commen sense people you see a stop sign STOP. If not, ya get hit by a car your own fault!
Comment #11: We need better education on the joggers and bicyclists stopping at the stop signs. The children are following the bad examples placed by their parents.
Comment #10: just need people to pay attention to the stop signs at the street crossing...many of the bike rider think they have the right of way to cross the street and don't even stop.
Comment #9: More signs will just be a waste of time and money. Maybe we should put up mock memorials instead so people will get a clue especially at the corner of 162 and Military Rd E.
Comment #8: I think there are plenty of signs to follow throughout the trail. The only ones that don't follow these signs are the so called hard core bicyclists who really need to take their sport onto the highway. I think it’s very unsafe for the bicyclists who want to go 17 to 25 mph to be on the trail especially when walkers, family's, and day time congestion begin. I believe the intent in building a trail was around the average person who comes here to walk, stroll on there bicycles, and hangout with Family members while enjoying our great town.
Comment #7: I have watched several times at people walking and riding, they don"t stop period. I guess they think the signs don"t apply to them. They seem to think they are the elite. We need some kind of controls. We probably will wait untill someone gets hurt bad or killed.
Comment #6: What is the point really? If they don't pay attention to the pre-existing signs and such, why would more help? All to often people using said trail seem to think they automatically have the right of way at an intersection, not even stopping when the crosswalk sign reads "stop" ((red hand, whatever)). No need to waste our money here. Use it for something that truly matters.
Comment #5: Yes. I'm getting tired of cyclists and whomever not paying any attention to crosswalks or the signs for them to stop.
Comment #4: Amen to the sign for the drivers of autos. So many times people have just blown through the crosswalks while PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY IN THEM!!!
Comment #3: Too many signs will clutter the area, most people who use the trail know when to stop, look and then proceed. I think the majority of mistakes are made by people driving who have not idea what the rules of the road are concerning walkers and cyclists.
Comment #2: THERE SHOULD BE A SIGN SAYING NO SIGNS
Comment #1: There needs to be consistancy with all ( not just in Orting)trails so the "users" know what to look for. And yes, the users are residents here and our visitors. We have enough "SIGNS" everyday, lets not cluttter up the trail. Looking at all the challenges and making recommendations is a positive mode of action. LA
