Comment #58: los pinos is a good restaurant with friendly service and good food mcdonalds is bad
Comment #57: We love Los Pinos mexican restaurant, it's the best mexican food & very good service, generuos portion, & great price.
Comment #56: I try to shop and dine in Orting as much as I can. Orting really could use a Fred Meyer or Winco. It would be nice to have more variety when it comes to shopping. It would also be nice to have more variety with other shopping needs as well, such as electronics, pet supply stores (like Petsmart), hardware stores, bookstores (even a used one would be good), clothing stores, gift shops, auto supply (like Schucks or something)...you get the picture. These are usually the things I have to go up on the hill for because Orting really lacks in this area. The smaller versions of some of these types of stores that Orting does have are either more expensive than the bigger stores or don't have as much to offer.

Comment #54: As a small business owner here in town I see how many wonderful people stay in town to suport us and the other businesses and we want to say THANKS! In the last three years we have done everything we can also as a small business to support our community, because community matters! We love Clemintinas laugh as much as her Carne Asada steak, we just tried out the pasta at the new Sparpole and it is YUMMY! The pumpkin pizza Route 66 made last year for the pumpkin festival was delicious! The Chinese Resturant, the teriyaki places, CC's grill....ect...all the places in town are so yummy that I am on a diet now! We love to talk to Dawn at Orting liquor about upcoming events going on in town while we are picking up what we need for family BBQs, we love to visit the quilt shop and buy projects from Robbie we will probably never get to, we like to see what neat new things Stan has at the antique store and rent our bikes from the bike shop and go to fundraising events at the Eagles and Lions clubs ect.... This town is AMAZING! We feel blessed to live here AND to do business here and we thank each and everyone of you for supporting us and this town! If you have time, stop in to Around the Corner Cafe....and say hi. Thanks for your feedback! Have a GREAT Memorial Day weekend!
Comment #53: We love Los Pinos, Emporer's City, and Papa Murphy's! I must admit that when I do grocery shopping I go up on the hill. I plan a two week menu and so I only shop (and spend the gas $) once every two weeks. I do go to Safeway for fruit, milk and bread that runs out during that time. I really, really miss our Dollar store! It was a great place to pick up supplies for arts/ crafts and birthday parties. Gas prices are getting to the point where the change you save shopping at Wal-mart for lightbulbs, TP, cleaners, etc isn't really saved after the drive! Given the 50 comments so far, it's clear that Safeway could try a little harder, and Los Pinos is doing great. Since gas isn't going to go down anytime soon I wonder if some of our local shops like Cope's, and Work sports could start meeting us half way. I would like to shop local for school supplies and summer gear. What about a customer appreciation week or something that could promote shopping for things we typically go on the hill for? I know the higher the volume of shoppers the better prices you could offer. Cope's could have our school supply list on hand with a comparison to other stores on the hill and gas/ time difference? It might help...

Comment #51: I try to shop and dine locally but there is a shortage of shopping for anything not grocery related and dinning does not have in some cases a higher level of good locally grown food.
Comment #50: We enjoy eating out at times. I like to support my home town. Cari Hutchinson
Comment #49: I do as much as possible and as gas keeps rising, I assume we all will. However, we all like choice too. I agree Safeway prices take advantage of us, Los Pinos is a treasure, and the L&M always serves up great food. Work Sports is a great local store, Arrow has done well since the change too. I LOVE this Orting News paper and will gladly shop or dine at any business that supports it through advertising. I see several businesses placing themselves in Classifieds and, while it IS available, don't do it on the cheap and make us search for you. Support Orting News so we don't lose this great community resource too!

Comment #47: My family loves to eat at Los Pinos, but other than that we do a lot on South Hill. Safeway prices are ridicilous and burdensom for families on a budget. We would love to see more stores open that have what young families need so we don't have to leave town but they need to be at prices working families can afford.
Comment #46: We don't dine out much, but when we do it's usually up on the hill or we hit the local Subway in Orting. We would like to see another fast food restaurant besides McDonalds. As for grocery shopping it's done up on the hill. We also shop on the hill for other things like clothes, birthday presents, school supplies. etc. Orting needs more stores with a mixed variety at reasonable prices.
Comment #45: We shop at Safeway for the quick items but big shopping somewhere cheaper. The only restaurant worth eating at is Los Pinos. Route 66 is way overpriced. Would dine and shop here in town if had better options.
Comment #44: Given the current cost of gas, we try to patronize local shops and restaurants as much as possible. Yes, some things may be more expensive, but when you factor in the gas cost of driving to South Hill or Bonney Lake, plus the time involved, staying local makes a lot of sense! Plus, we are willing to pay a bit more to support local businesses that help make our community special.
Comment #43: We try to do most of our shopping and eating out in town; however, we do not do our grocery shopping here. Safeway is way to expensive so we go up the hill for that. Los Pinos is the best restaurant in town, followed by Emporer's City and Modoo Teriyaki.
Comment #42: Yes for dining, coffee, and minimal shopping (milk, bread, etc.). I try to avoid the chains in town (McD's, Safeway, Starbucks, etc.,) and support small town businesses. I enjoy the small town atmosphere...even though it has changed SO much in the last few years. I don't enjoy going into Safeway. I do the bulk of my grocery shopping where I can get better deals. Love Los Pinos and the Teriyaki place near Subway.
Comment #41: I try to shop locally if possible. I've stopped shopping at Safeway. They're a train wreck. At the least , the employees are VERY rude and unprofessional and they don't care. All the restaurants have been okay, others are better. Some stores are over priced so I can't shop there, although I would if I could. The hair places are over priced for what you get for sure. One place is like a visit to the set of Steel Magnolia's, not pleasant.
Comment #40: We truly enjoy the community atmopshere at our local restaurants and shops. Our family feels it is very important to support our local businesses. When our local businesses are doing well, it benefits all of us.
Comment #39: Safeway: Not exactly a 'local' company, but I do feel I am supporting the locals employed there. Orting Floral Shop: Best fresh flowers, quick delivery service, and friendly! Copes: Truly LOCAL! Think about them for prescriptions! Restaurants: Enjoy them all...Los Pinos a favorite!
Comment #38: I think it's important for us to keep as much of our money in Orting as possible.
Comment #37: I try to shop here, to avoid going to puyallup. I do enjoy the mexican restraunt, and Around the Corner. I try to keep the buck in the community.
Comment #36: please ... people who live in orting support your local community .. it will be better for everyone in the future.
Comment #35: best mexican food in the state is right here...we like to support the local community: not only is there some very good food, but camping gear, gardening supplies, auto parts, and services such as hair cutting, auto repair, pharmacies, and banking. there's little reason to go elsewhere for these items/services.
Comment #34: I used to, but with the rise of food and gas prices, I tend to go up to South Hill for cheaper prices. But, when I can, I try to buy from local businesses. I think it definitely feels like Orting's downtown core is loosing business to the two valleys - they just can't keep up with the pricing. It makes me sad, but I hope things will improve in the future, with some new development.

Comment #32: Yes - but I would dine out and shop more in Orting if I had more choices. Too many times I have to go to South Hill for options when I would rather stay local and keep the dollars in my own community!
Comment #31: YES we most defintley eat in orting at our most favorite pizza place Route 66 pizza. they really have the best pizza around this area. our family would drive to orting if we didnt live here ITS THAT YUMMY!!! also great customer service always keeping our free refills on pop full.Ive read some other reveiws of orting residents about the shopping in orting and i sometimes feel that us orting people are to critical.we all make mistakes. Help keep our resturants and shopping here by supporting them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment #30: Yes - but I would dine out and shop more in Orting if I had more choices. Too many times I have to go to South Hill for options when I would rather stay local and keep the dollars in my own community!
Comment #29: If I take my family out to dinner, then I want my money to go back to my community. I love my town and will do anything to keep all the wonderful small "mom and pa's" stores in business. NOT WALMART!!
Comment #28: If I take my family out to dinner, then I want my money to go back to my community. I love my town and will do anything to keep all the wonderful small "mom and pa's" stores in business. NOT WALMART!!
Comment #27: We try to support Orting businesses whenever we can, but with a family of 6 buying all our groceries at Safeway would blow the budget. We use them for prescriptions and incidentials. I gas up at Arco - usually .20 cheaper. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Papa Murphy's - good value for the price.
Comment #26: I love our little community and try to shop and eat here as much as possible. i think we have some great restaurants here! my i sell scrapbooking supplies from stampin' up! for comment #24!
Comment #25: I like to support orting business, but I cant eat here every time i need variety. But eat here 80 percent of my eating out.
Comment #24: Fun little town & I live there. Great food.... Wish there was a scrapbooking shop so I wouldn't have to go other places.
Comment #23: We eat out in Orting and we tell people who come to our store that there many great choices for eating out while here in town. Businesses here will only make it if the locals support them. And please check us out before making blank statements about our services. We are the antique store here in town. We are open 7 days a week. We offer many new items for buying gifts on top of a lot of nice furniture and collectibles. We are working on a clothing section also so people will be able to shop locally. Our clothes are gently used or vintage and we will continue adding to the selection. Give us a try.
Comment #22: Most of the stores in Orting have hours that make it difficult to shop here, most of the time.I know alot of people that want to shop late or Sundays and most of the small stores are not open.
Comment #21: I would like to dine in Orting , but the only place worth going to is Los Pinos. Safeway is way to costly, Gas I can do better anywhere. Overall, No I do not shop in Orting or eat there in general Orting SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
Comment #20: Because it is a great town and the variety and quality of offerings is excellent.
Comment #19: I Dine in Orting, I LIKED MY SMALL TOWN, THE SMALL TOWN FLAVOR AND THAT IS ALL THAT IS LEFT OF IT! We enjoy it frequently. I leave Safeway, shell, McDonalds alone. I do use the work sport store from time to time. I miss my small town. I a VERY VERY WEARY OF THE "STAR BUCKS" everywhere I go and the mentality that goes with it. I am sad to see the little individuals close up shop because the chains come in.
Comment #18: Yes, to a point. We don't dine out much, but when we do, we usually stay in Orting. Shopping is very frustrating. I hate it when my kids need simple clothing articles or something for an art project and I have to drive to Bonney Lake or Fred Meyer, South Hill to obtain it. If I need a gift for someone, I go to Sumner and shop their downtown. Antique stores are nice, but they don't offer basic items that we need every single day. I would love to eat, work and play in this town, but that probably will never be an option because we only seem to get in junkie shops that offer no common sense services.
Comment #17: I shop when I have to get something quick, but find the Safeway is small and don't carry most of the health foods the larger stores carry. I do dine out in Orting. Glad to see the old sparpole has a new business in it.
Comment #16: We eat at Los Pinos and Wa WA . Route 66 lost my buisness last year, I called 4 hours ahead for a delivery of 6 pizzas for a birthday party and they showed up 1 hour late and gave me cold pizza! Another time they forgot the chicken sandwich, the driver went back to get it and it was cold and soggy when he got back. Check the dates on perisable foods from Safeway, some have been expired and still on the shelf.
Comment #15: I believe supporting local businesses is like supporting your friends and neighbors. We do it. And, the more we support local businesses, the more diverse businesses that will be attracted to our city. There's more than just grocery shopping and great restaurants. We also have a wedding & event venue, a bicycle shop, and a financial planner. Use them!
Comment #14: As much as possible. If we don't support the businesses here we lose them. I can't say that I do all shopping or dining here--but do as much as fits our lifestyle. Sure would like to see a quality, yet affordable pet/feed store come back to town.
Comment #12: Orting has some very good eateries. Around the Corner Cafe has wonderful customer service and affordable food. As for grocery shopping here, forget it. Safeway is way overpriced and their gas prices are outrageous, even with a club card.
Comment #11: If this paper is all about Orting, why are you giving a dinner for two to a resteraunt in Tacoma? We have several nice places to eat right in Orting. I would think that you would want to encourage people to support their local businesses. With this kind of support, local businesses will go the way of The Orting Food Market. We need to support our own!!!
Comment #10: We shop in Orting for groceries only because of the convenience and gas prices. Safeway is expensive and has limited the choices of many products. We dine at Los Pinos, Chineese food resturant and has reciently tried the new steak and pasta ( although I don't have much hope for them as 2 out of 4 orders were incorrect!)
Comment #9: I only do my grocery shopping at safeway in town - the convenience factor out weighs the price issue - epecially with the price of gas these days. We love Around the Corner and Los Pinos - I'm happy to see the new steak and pasta resteraunt. We support our local business!
Comment #8: We no longer shop in Orting because Safeway charges too much for EVERYTHING and their customer service is horrible. We only use the pharmacy because Ken is so sweet and personable. Once he retires we will find a new pharmacy. We no longer dine out in Orting because of the prices of pizza at Route 66 and customer service levels are so bad other places. Heaven forbid the cook get your meal wrong at Around the Corner. You may not be charged for it, but you pay for it in dirty looks.
Comment #7: Groceries because Top Foods is too far away, Gas because there's a choice, and Liquor because we have the friendliest liquor store on the planet. Dining at Los Pinos but that's about it.
Comment #6: Groceries because Top Foods is too far away, Gas because there's a choice, and Liquor because we have the friendliest liquor store on the planet. Dining at Los Pinos but that's about it.
Comment #5: I often dine in Orting and purchase gas and milk but other than that I don't do much other shopping in town. I'm not sure why..
Comment #4:
Comment #3: Not really........wish there were more choices
Comment #2: For dining out, home improvement and camping needs, our family definitly stays in town. Orting has the best Mexican (Los Pinos) and Teriyaki around as far as restaruants go. The service can't be beat at Work Sports and Arrow. But my grocery shopping is done up the hill. Safeway is outrageously expensive, and the people there look like they would rather be doing ANYTHING then working there.
Comment #1: I think it is important to support our businesses in town. Everyone is always complaining there is nothing to do and no where to go in Orting. It's because as a town they are not supported enough to stay in town. Get out and support your local business's.
