Comment #18: They do a horrible job. Masses of children waiver out of the school district because we are not a competative or succesful district. We have about 3 restaurants, there is little to do with kids other than go to the park. In short, we are lacking big time. I agree with comment #14 that we should put the infrastructure in before building one more house. Rows of houses sitting empty is not inviting. I also agree that the mayor and city counsel do nothing to promote this town except talk among the old-school Orting residents. This all comes down to a chronic problem in Orting, the old timers vs. the new people. This is definitely a town divided, but just becuase you have lived here your whole life, that doesn'tgive you a more important say in whay goes on here. We couldn't even get a handfull of people to finish building the farmer's market building. No one can agree on the bridge for kids, so it will end up scrapped. It is time for some real leadership, and for the next generation (new or lifelong Orting resident) to step up and lead us out of the darkness.
Comment #17: Our Mayor has a New Vision for Orting. This was her campaign promise. I think it is to turn Orting into another Pierce County Dump. Look at her yard and then look at others lots around old town. Talk about setting an example. What a shame. Why even have a Code Compliance Officer.
Comment #16: I fell that city Goverment needs to start listening to the people in Orting and Quit letting Parametic Engineering Co. Make all the decision. Make it a freindly town without all the hassles to do anything
Comment #15: I feel orting promotes itself as a small but growing community, with a freindly country atmospehe, with alot of family activities. they keep the community informed by there bilboard and by news letters. thats why we moved here
Comment #14: I agree...What are they needing/trying to promote. The traffic situation is a nightmare now...how much more do we need to invite. As for promoting the trail--how about putting in facilities before we invite more. I am so sick of people use our private driveway for a toilet. (No, this is not a joke. We constantly have people doing this.)
Comment #13: Not sure what they're supposed to promote? We certainly don't need the continued growth without a change to the infrastructure of the HWY 162. Gratzer Landing is a joke. You've got 4 vacancies at the Pioneer shopping area near Safeway and two more vacancies in the new strip next to Route 66. How will this new retail space be successful?
Comment #12: The task of advertising may seem daunting with no physical paper, however, via this publication, there is no excuse not to advertise. New growth and changes are difficult, however; if Orting is to succeed, its leaders, citizens and businesses had best change with the times. Our community needs to take an upper hand and engage in communications outside of meetings held for each branch of local government, civic organizations, clubs, businesses and the like. Though meetings are necessary, how many people even know when they are? Where they are? Why they are held? What happens at the meeting? They are not the most effective tool for delivering information to the community. Get the word out, talk to your neighbor's neighbor! How about a local business person? How about sending the information into the Orting News, IT IS ALL WE HAVE RIGHT NOW, LET'S UTILIZE IT! It is practical, effective and free!
Comment #11: It depends on what we are trying to promote? Are we aiming for tourists, or more residents, or advertising ourselves as a friendly town to visit, or a place to start out on the bike ride to Rainier, or ??? Just wondering....
Comment #10: I live in this town and rarely know what is going on!
Comment #9: NO i DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CLASSIFIEDS, LET ALONE TRY TO FIND SOMETHING IN THERE. NEEDS WORK-LOVE TO READY THE OTHER ARTICLES THOUGH.
Comment #8: Orting is/was so backward in planning the town, there are not many places for new business. It sounds as though it's quite difficult to get permits etc(at least in the the past) why would anyone even try.
Comment #7: We have definitley improved and continue to improve.
Comment #6: Needs to have old news taken out....Keep it up to date. More would read it and may even advertise there. Loved the Gazette though.
Comment #5: No! The only thing they advertise about is Parks & Rec.
Comment #4: Things like Orting News is a good start! I am not sure what else they do, but now they have a paper that can reach anyone in the world, so you can't say they aren't trying!
Comment #3: Living Outside of Orting, I cannot say whether they do or dont.
Comment #2: The city? Hell no. Their website, like the Chamber's never changes and is way out of date.
Comment #1: If I understand the question correctly, No. The Chamber's new street sign on 162 is neat, but the City routinely lets there sign hold content several weeks old. Everybody I know reads this new paper...why doesn't the city promote on Orting News? That banner across the main drag is effective.
