The Passing of Richard D. HanelBy: Bonnie Hanel

Richard D. Hanel passed away Friday, May 31st 2013 in his home of Puyallup Valley at the age of 63, surrounded by family. Born in Orting, WA on Valentine’s Day of 1950, he was the youngest child of Henry and Ileene Hanel. Richard graduated from Orting High School in 1969 before obtaining an Associate’s degree from Green River College. Following a few odd jobs, he worked for Washington Natural Gas/Puget Sound Energy and retired after 23 years. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Bonnie Hanel, 3 siblings: Pat Zelepuza, Phyllis Norbeck, Robert “Bud†Hanel, 5 children: Shon (Stacy) Hanel, Trisha Hanel, Donna (Jerry) Holt, Jeanette Lively, Racheal (Ty) Cummings, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, extended family and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Harold Hanel, Barbara McAbee, and David Hanel. Richard was never one to miss a year of fishing, even to this year. He was a very energetic, vivacious person that knew everyone and he will be missed by all. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 8th at the LDS (Mormon) Church in Sumner at 1:00pm.
