May 08, 2014
Poyeho Project’s ‘Running of the Goats’
Come and join us on May 31st for the 1st Annual ‘Running of the Goats’. I’m sure that many of you have wanted to travel to Pamplona, Spain for the ‘Running of the Bulls’. We at Poyeho Project realize that the cost of travel is so expensive that we have decided to bring the excitement to you with a bit safer forum. The event will run from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and will provide fun for the whole family. The venue for this event is City Goat Farm & Zoo in Spanaway. Amidst the fun, you will be helping us raise funds to develop businesses in southern Africa. Please visit our website to sign-up and obtain additional information. www.poyeho.com Poyeho Project was founded in the spring of 2007 by David & Dayle Robbs. It is incorporated in the state of Washington and received its 501-c-3 status in November of the same year. Governed by an 8 member board, Poyeho Project is a business development program that provides business skills and tools to the indigenous peoples of southern Africa. Building business through planning, systems development, and training to establish job skills, Poyeho Project is committed to establishing long-term, viable businesses that will grow and provide employment to individuals in numerous communities of southern Africa. David’s first trip was in November of 2005 and it was during this time that the initial vision was conceived. Having now made 11 trips, the organization has trained over 500 individuals in business and 12 in a college level Basic Accounting Class. In December of 2008 we had our first business start and we are currently working with several companies in different levels of planning and funding: 3 ongoing agricultural development businesses, 1 in Zimbabwe and 2 in Malawi and 2 self-sustaining businesses in South Africa. Poyeho Project is working in Republic of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Zambia. Research shows that the literacy rate among a large percentage of the indigenous people is very low. Without this basic understanding of business and free enterprise systems, their future and potential for prosperity is chained to their past. In addition, many of these communities are faced with various issues including violence, unemployment, malnutrition, historically entrenched racial inequities, and HIV-AIDS. Hundreds of intelligent individuals, the future of their nation, are lost to death, disease, and despair. Developing strong businesses in communities provides hope and employment to the local people. Through our programs, businesses will be established, employees will be trained, and the overall economic conditions of the community will improve. Our goal in all that we do is to establish sustainable communities that are no longer reliant on handouts to maintain their lives. There is an old saying: “Give a man a fish you have fed him for a day.†“Teach a man to fish you have fed him for a lifetime.†We at Poyeho Project believe there is a missing line to this old adage and that is: “Train a man to own a fish business, you feed a village for generations.†David Robbs, Founder & Executive Director |
